THE SACRAMENT OF HOLY BAPTISM

NewSafariBlue300.png

In the Indian Orthodox tradition, the sacrament of Holy Baptism is a sacred moment in a baby’s life, marking their spiritual rebirth and entrance into the Church. Through this sacrament, the child (Oliver) is cleansed from the stain of original sin and becomes a member of the Body of Christ. During the service, the godfather (Kunjumon) renounces evil on behalf of the child and professes the Orthodox faith, affirming the baby’s future in Christ. The priest (Fr. Abey George) then immerses the baby three times in holy water, signifying death to sin and new life in the resurrection of Jesus. Immediately after, the child receives Holy Chrismation, being anointed with holy oil as the seal of the Holy Spirit. From this moment, the baby is welcomed into the spiritual family of the Church, surrounded by the prayers of his parents (Shobin & Amy), sister (Alexis), godparents (Kunjumon, Susan, Alex & Susan), and family (The Philips & Kurians); he begins his journey of faith in the grace of God.
